Dear Innovation STEM Students: I can’t believe another week has passed since we were together at school working hard on the tech challenge project. I miss the energy and (sometimes chaos) of L107 and I truly miss seeing your faces and spending time with all of you. I hope that you are all finding ways to remain healthy, optimistic, and hopeful as we endure this very strange and stressful time. I send positive wishes to you and your families. I am here in Santa Rosa and am happy that my daughter from New York City will be out of quarantine tomorrow. We have been delivering food to her bedroom door as she has been isolated for the last 13 days. I am grateful that she is not living in New York City right now as it is an epicenter of this virus. If you remember the maps that we were looking at we know that some areas of the world and the United States are still greatly impacted and other areas that had no cases are showing more cases. We know that so much of containing the spread is up to us and how we all behave with regards to physical distancing and responsible behavior. I am hoping that soon we can see some flattening of the curve. I’ve been busy trying to get my head around this “distance learning” challenge, and I’m also working hard to figure out the technology piece. I wish I had a few of you around to help because I am not always the best with technology! The district is setting up training on Google Classroom as it seems that will be the main platform we will be using. For those of you who are sophomores this may be easier for you as you have used Google Classroom before. At this time I am also planning to use the class website to post assignments and Jupiter grades as well, but stay tuned for further details. Teaching science without an actual lab space is challenging but I have been thinking of ways to get around that hurdle. Science is best when the learning is hands on so we will hopefully be able to incorporate some “lab” work during our quarantine time. As always I am open to suggestions from you as well. For now I’ve provided detailed instructions about how to join the appropriate class; the case-sensitive class code for each rotation is as follows: Ares: a3egxwf Phobos: puu55p6 Deimos: ctdq5tn How to join a class with a class code
In the meantime, I wish you the very best, and miss being with you all. Please take very good care of yourselves. Best regards, Ms. Hart Monday, March 23, 2020 Dear STEM Students, The health restrictions are still in place and will carry on longer. For the time being all information on learning will be coming directly from the district. On a personal note I would love to hear from you directly via email about how you and your family are doing during this difficult time. My thoughts are with all of you and with the entire world that is truly suffering. I will miss seeing you in the days to come but I would love to see photos of what you are doing. I am baking like crazy and working in my garden. I am also, of course, obsessed by the news but I take breaks to speak to friends on the phone and to relax. Science is so important during this time and I know that many dedicated people are working hard to find vaccines and treatments. Please take care of yourselves and I will truly miss spending time in L107, building, creating, learning and laughing. Don't worry we will be back together and share in our gratefulness to all who are working hard to keep us safe. Best, Ms. Hart Tuesday, March 10, 2020 Mini blocks
